Colonial Farms offers an assortment of fully cooked and ready to eat Suppers.
Our Suppers require only heating and serve a family of approximately 3-4 people. Each family Supper consists of a choice of protein (beef, chicken, turkey, pork, etc), a choice of vegetable, a choice of rice or potatoes and a choice of fruit for desert.
Furthermore, we offer our customers an easy purchase process through our online farmers market. We also conveniently deliver our Suppers to your door.
It is important to note that our Suppers are shelf stable and don't require refrigeration. This is a significant benefit when food security can be jeopardized by electricity outages from storms or from cyberattacks.
Minimizing Shipping Costs - Customer convenience through delivery to your doorstep is very important to Colonial Farms. As a result, we are very focused on minimizing shipping costs for our customers. To that end, we offer an assortment of fruits, vegetables and proteins in a volume that minimizes the per unit shipping expense to an affordable level. The optimal volume that minimizes the shipping costs is 3-4 family Suppers (approximately 12-15 cans)
Customer Choice - 3-4 family Suppers usually consists of an assortment of 12-15 cans including fruits, vegetables and/or meats, plus a pouch of seasoned steak jerky and a pouch of smoked beef bites. Importantly, the customer chooses the exact products included in the 3-4 family Suppers.
Shelf Stable for Food Security - In order for our food products to be shelf stable and ready to eat, we offer products that are either canned or dehydrated.
The world's oldest form of food preservation is through dehydration or drying. Dehydrated beef (i.e., Beef Jeky) is a protein-rich food snack that has been preserved through the reduction or removal of moisture for shelf stability.
Another older form of food preservation is canning. Our canned fruits, vegetables and meats offer our customers numerous benefits including:
- Longer Shelf Life - Canning significantly extends the shelf life of food, allowing it to be stored for up to one to five years, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Reduced Food Waste - By preserving food, canning minimizes spoilage and food waste, leading to a more sustainable approach to food storage.
- Convenience and Accessibility - Canned goods provide a convenient and readily available source of food, particularly when fresh options are limited.
- Preservation of Nutrients - While some water-soluble vitamins like C and B can be lost during the heating process, canning can actually increase the antioxidant content of certain foods.
